Cheers : Cheers Wine of the month February, Mason Cellars Pomello and Three Pears

Posted by Phil on 2012/2/1 12:10:00 (19 reads)

Cheers Wine of the Month February two selections from Mason Cellars only $9.99
(Regularly $11.99)

2010 Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc
Vineyard Notes:
Primarily sourced from Lake County, Pomelo’s characteristic grapefruit profile is consistently found in our blocks situated on the Kelseyville bench.  With an elevation of nearly 1300’, the growing season is long, with ample hours of sunshine and great diurnal temperature fluctuations- all responsible for the explosive flavors found in Pomelo.  We also source a small percentage from an old, established block in Lodi- amazing balance and texture, the Sauvignon Blanc sourced from this region is grapefruit pith with a weightiness contributing to the mid-palette.
Winemaking Notes:
100% Sauvignon Blanc.  Fermented in all stainless steel tanks; extremely long and cold ferment allows for the fragrant and big fruit flavors to be appreciated.  The crisp acidity is retained and then rounded out and complimented by a broadened mouth and ever-slight sweetness.
Tasting Notes:
A mouth-watering, vivid style; this wine explodes with delicious flavors of passion fruit, guava, quince, lime peel; with an intensely grapefruit nose.

2010 Three Pears Pinot Grigio
Vineyard Notes:
Nestled within the Sacramento Delta, our Three Pears Pinot Grigio is sourced from an ideal climate for producing crisp, aromatic white wines.  The heavy maritime influence cools the afternoon heat with consistent winds, moderating temperature and allowing for clean fruit flavors and great acid retention.  Built on the levy system, soils are fertile but well drained tending to produce balanced vines; canopies with great exposure for subtle nuanced flavors.
Winemaking Notes:
Long, cool fermentation in 100% stainless steel tanks, capture the expressive, clean fruit flavors characteristic of vineyards in this area.  Harvested at lower brix, the natural acid levels compliment the crisp apple and pears flavors of our Three Pears.  The lengthy fermentation produces wines with great balance, clean mid-palates, rounded out by a slight sweetness.
Tasting Notes:

Aromatics of crisp pear, pippin apple and citrus.  Nectarous pears, peaches and apples combine in a rich mouthfeel, complemented by a savory acidity.

Cheers : Cheers Wine of the Month December, Selections from Cline Cellars

Posted by Phil on 2011/12/1 11:32:21 (222 reads)

CHEERS WINE OF THE MONT DECEMBER

Selections from Cline Cellars

Cline's roots run deep
In the latter part of the 1800s, Oakley, Contra Costa County was a booming farming community with thousands of acres of orchards and healthy vineyards. Fred Cline's maternal grandfather, Valeriano Jacuzzi of pump and spa fame, called this place home. On summer visits to his grandparents, Fred learned both the love of agricultural life and the mysteries of vinifying grapes into wine. These lessons led Fred to obtain a degree in Agriculture Management from U.C. Davis. In 1982, with an inheritance from his grandfather, Fred founded Cline Cellars near Oakley, California. Here, he preserved and restored many ancient vine sites to their rightful reign as premier California wine lands.

In 1991, Fred and his wife Nancy relocated the winery from Oakley to the Carneros region of Sonoma County on a historic 350-acre estate with new vineyards and facilities. While much of the cool Carneros region is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot, Fred pioneered the planting of Rhône varietals including Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne.

Over the years, Fred’s innovation has consistently resulted in some of northern California’s most distinctive Rhône-style wines and intense, flavorful Zinfandels, many with 90+ point ratings from Wine Spectator. Wine & Spirits called our Ancient Vines Mourvèdre “one of the top 100 values,” and in 2011 Robert Parker Jr. wrote in the Wine Advocate, “this is the finest portfolio of value-priced wines from Cline Cellars that I have tasted to date.”
