For Pete’s sake, Cheers would like to invite you to join us Sunday September 28th 2014, as we join the family of Peter Bergstrom in celebrating the honor of all men and women of the United States Armed Forces and our Veterans.

For Pete's Sake is an annual charitable event held in the honor of the late Cpl. Peter Matthew Bergstrom.

Following the World Trade Center attack, on September 12, 2001, Peter selflessly enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He subsequently served two tours in Iraq, including what was ground support for the initial "Shock and Awe" campaign on Baghdad. Peter was a true patriot with a strong sense of honor, duty, and respect. After his four years with the USMC, Peter joined the MN Army National Guard. Though he came home safe and continued a civilian life, he was fighting a fight that we didn't know or see. We lost Peter on February 25, 2011 to an accidental drug overdose.

The inaugural For Pete's Sake event, organized and hosted by Peter's family, was held on September 11, 2011. Over 150 friends and family shared an afternoon picnic that included food, music, and games. The event raised over $1,000 in donations for the Wounded Warrior project, the same organization that received contribution in lieu of flowers from Peter's funeral.

The 2012 event gathered donations for the MN non-profit Tribute to the Troops. Since 2004, members of Tribute to the Troops have conducted an annual ride weekend each September, visiting dozens of families over the years that have lost a loved one in the War on Terror. Each year, the number of participants has grown, helping to increase awareness among others of the ultimate sacrifice made by these brave American Heroes and their families.

In 2013 the donations were gathered for the MN non-profit Pawsitive Perspective Assistance Dogs (PawPADS), whose focus is on training service dogs for people with physical mobility disabilities. PawPADS has an innovative program called Paw Corps that is designed to assist veterans who are experiencing PTSD reconnect with their civilian lives, their families, and society in general.

For Pete's Sake is non-secular and not associated with any political party, it is simply a way to gather people who support the men and women who have served our country and raise money for non-profit organizations that support these courageous individuals.

This year’s event will be held Sunday, September 28th 2014 rain or shine from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Bush Lake shelter #3 9098 East Bush Lake Road Bloomington, MN 55438. Join The family of Peter Bergstrom for a fun afternoon of chow, drinks, games and a raffle. Proceeds will benefit Pawsitive Perspectives Assistance Dogs
