Did we mention the wine already?
Goode Friends, Goode Wine and Goode Times. Are you in?
Murphy Goode 2010 Chardonnay hails from vineyards along the California coast, where cool sea breezes bring out the apple, pear and tropical fruit character of Chardonnay grapes. And just when you think you’re good to go with all these bright fruit flavors, streaks of lemon crème, vanilla and toasty oak show up for added intrigue. Not to mention dimension and balance. This may not be your mother-in-law’s Chardonnay, but we’re betting she’ll like it as much as you do.*regularly $14.99
Cabernet Sauvignon put California vineyards on the map, and Murphy Goode's big, bold version comes from winegrowing regions spread throughout the state. Rock-n-roll is big here too, all part of the laid-back, free-stylin’ culture. That’s not to say things don’t get intense—we’ve got your power ballads, your penetrating lyrics, and your Cab full of hard-hitting blackberry and cherry flavors for real depth you won’t soon forget. Raise a glass, flip the steaks and turn up the volume.*regulary $15.99

Cheers Wine of the Month, March

Two Selections from Matchbook

$10.99 All Month!

Regularly $14.99!

We have been fans of Matchbook for a long time now and we are really happy to feature them this month! here are the details:

This lusciously opulent wine has all the richness without the excessive oak and butter that characterize most California Chardonnays. Wonderful aromas of pineapple, pear and orange flower honey are prominent with undertones of toasty oak. There is a kiss of orange blossom perfume in the background. Flavors of apple butter and cinnamon toast are balanced by a good dose of lemon zest and a crisp, mineral finish. Pair this lovely Chardonnay with roast chicken or risotto or a salad of apples, pears and sharp cheese.
Blend: 98% Dunnigan Hills Chardonnay, 2% Russian River Chardonnay
Production: 23,500 cases
2010 was picture perfect for us out here in the Dunnigan Hills AVA. Cooler than normal temperatures and very little wind allowed us to ripen our grapes slowly, allowing maximum flavor and intensity.
Six different clones of chardonnay were used in this wine and all were picked at night and delivered to the winery before sunrise to ensure that fresh cool grapes were crushed. Clone 809 (the most exotic) was cold tank fermented to enhance its Muscat character. The other lots were barrel fermented and periodically lees stirred. Yeast “cocktails” (a mixture of the winemaker’s favorite compatible yeasts) were used on all lots to ensure complex fermentation characters would evolve in the wine. Chardonnay from the Matchbook Vineyard was blended with a small percentage of Russian River Valley Chardonnay to balance the acidity and add characters of intense Pippin apples and floral spice.
Tinto Rey means “Red King.” Tempranillo is the king of Spanish red wines and one of the most important varietals in our Matchbook Vineyard in the Dunnigan Hills. The Spanish  varietals Tempranillo and Graciano contribute spicy red berry fruit flavors; Syrah adds rich flavors of black cherry and blueberry; the spicy cedar and tobacco notes are from the cool weather Cabernet Sauvignon; a touch of Petite Sirah pumps up the tannins, the rich color, and adds a little pepper spice.
Blend: 44% Tempranillo, 36% Syrah, 13% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Graciano, 2% Petite Sirah
Production: 6,900 cases
2007 was ideal for us in Dunnigan Hills. The late rains hit after flowering and fruit set and before veraison causing no damage. Warm weather followed allowing us to harvest in late August through early September.
After one day of cold soak, the tank was bled to concentrate the flavors. We pressed off at three to zero Brix after an eight day fermentation to allow brighter, cleaner fruit expression and to avoid heavy tannins. After two aerative rackings, the wine went down to barrel in October 2007. The final blend was created in May of the following year.

Cheers Wine of the Month February two selections from Mason Cellars only $9.99
(Regularly $11.99)
2010 Pomelo Sauvignon Blanc
Vineyard Notes:
Primarily sourced from Lake County, Pomelo’s characteristic grapefruit profile is consistently found in our blocks situated on the Kelseyville bench.  With an elevation of nearly 1300’, the growing season is long, with ample hours of sunshine and great diurnal temperature fluctuations- all responsible for the explosive flavors found in Pomelo.  We also source a small percentage from an old, established block in Lodi- amazing balance and texture, the Sauvignon Blanc sourced from this region is grapefruit pith with a weightiness contributing to the mid-palette.
Winemaking Notes:
100% Sauvignon Blanc.  Fermented in all stainless steel tanks; extremely long and cold ferment allows for the fragrant and big fruit flavors to be appreciated.  The crisp acidity is retained and then rounded out and complimented by a broadened mouth and ever-slight sweetness.
Tasting Notes:
A mouth-watering, vivid style; this wine explodes with delicious flavors of passion fruit, guava, quince, lime peel; with an intensely grapefruit nose.
2010 Three Pears Pinot Grigio
Vineyard Notes:
Nestled within the Sacramento Delta, our Three Pears Pinot Grigio is sourced from an ideal climate for producing crisp, aromatic white wines.  The heavy maritime influence cools the afternoon heat with consistent winds, moderating temperature and allowing for clean fruit flavors and great acid retention.  Built on the levy system, soils are fertile but well drained tending to produce balanced vines; canopies with great exposure for subtle nuanced flavors.
Winemaking Notes:
Long, cool fermentation in 100% stainless steel tanks, capture the expressive, clean fruit flavors characteristic of vineyards in this area.  Harvested at lower brix, the natural acid levels compliment the crisp apple and pears flavors of our Three Pears.  The lengthy fermentation produces wines with great balance, clean mid-palates, rounded out by a slight sweetness.
Tasting Notes:

Aromatics of crisp pear, pippin apple and citrus.  Nectarous pears, peaches and apples combine in a rich mouthfeel, complemented by a savory acidity.

Selections from Cline Cellars

Cline's roots run deep
In the latter part of the 1800s, Oakley, Contra Costa County was a booming farming community with thousands of acres of orchards and healthy vineyards. Fred Cline's maternal grandfather, Valeriano Jacuzzi of pump and spa fame, called this place home. On summer visits to his grandparents, Fred learned both the love of agricultural life and the mysteries of vinifying grapes into wine. These lessons led Fred to obtain a degree in Agriculture Management from U.C. Davis. In 1982, with an inheritance from his grandfather, Fred founded Cline Cellars near Oakley, California. Here, he preserved and restored many ancient vine sites to their rightful reign as premier California wine lands.

In 1991, Fred and his wife Nancy relocated the winery from Oakley to the Carneros region of Sonoma County on a historic 350-acre estate with new vineyards and facilities. While much of the cool Carneros region is planted to Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Merlot, Fred pioneered the planting of Rhône varietals including Syrah, Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne.

Over the years, Fred’s innovation has consistently resulted in some of northern California’s most distinctive Rhône-style wines and intense, flavorful Zinfandels, many with 90+ point ratings from Wine Spectator. Wine & Spirits called our Ancient Vines Mourvèdre “one of the top 100 values,” and in 2011 Robert Parker Jr. wrote in the Wine Advocate, “this is the finest portfolio of value-priced wines from Cline Cellars that I have tasted to date.”
