Clos Du Val Napa Valley Cabernet

I often hear people say "This is a great food wine" or "This wine needs food". I never fully understood that statement until I tried Clos Du Val, make no mistake if you wanted to pour yourself a glass of this Cab, sit, sip, enjoy, and relax you could do so without hesitation. However, after my first glass I started to crave a good grilled steak, maybe even with a little char. Clos Du Val is very well structured, and has a surprisingly approachable complexity. This Cab has a deep, deep purple color and a spicy bouquet. On the palate I got dark fruit notes of blackberries and a long lingering spicy finish with some slight anise to it. More of a medium body for a Cab (This was an 06' vintage so it was still fairly young), and was aged in French oak barrels rather then the bolder American oak barrels. All in all I give Clos Du Val Napa Cab a thumbs up and will defiantly be taking this one home again especially when summer grilling season is back.
